Hi All

I guess the key is matched to the control unit under the dash? Is the infra red sensor matched too or can I use one off a different 306?

cheers smile

On citroens if it's infra red you can use another one, turn the ignition to auxilary postion, hold the new fob upto the roof sensor and press the unlock button for 10+ seconds.Try it if it doesn't work try again(maybe for upto 30 seconds)I can'y see why peugeot would be any different to citroen.

Two different systems on 306's. Depending on how old it is it'll either have an infra red system as described above or if it's a phase 3 (1999ish onwards) it'll have a radio system which is controlled by witchcraft. The later system needs a code which is hopefully on a card inside the wallet supplied with the car when it was new. Peugeot used to hold on to these details and if you're lucky will be able to match your Vin to the keycode. For a fee.

I have salvaged the control unit and the ignition key from a 2.0 hdi 306, I would guess that this is one of the ones without infra red sensor?

In a similar vein... my remote central locking stopped working before Christmas. 99 V plate 306 LX. I'm 99.9% sure it's the witchcraft version alluded to in a previous post (as opposed to IR).

How do I tell if its the key fob, or the receiver in the car? Indeed, where is the receiver?

Have you tried a new battery and resetting it to recognise its had a battery change?
