Evening,

My plan this weekend was to replace my leaking radiator and my broken spoiler. I have one hose that won't come off the rad as the access isn't great (the bottom right one if you were sat in the drivers seat) any tips on how to get the damn thing off?

Also cant take the bumper off as when someone drove into my front quater panel they appear to have damaged the bumpers side bracket thus I can't get the bolt out.

Are there any tips to sort this out or will it have to be a general garage job? (I am loathed to give them any more of my money).

Any 205 mechanics in the Thames Valley area?

Cheers, Tim.

Jack it up under the subframe and use some axle stands.
Remove the right front wheel.
Disconnect one end of hose from the rusty pipe.
Pull and twist the lower rad pipe.
Scrape skin from knuckles & swear.
Attack with a stanley knife followed by hackswaw.

When refitted smear a little silicon grease inside the tube (makes it easier for next time)

I'm 2mins from the M4 J11 and would be happy to take a look, even if it's just for a 2nd opinion.
Not certain how much time i'll have tomorrow but I do have a garage and decent set of tools if you need a hand.
PM me if you're close to Shinfield! smile

Thanks guys,

Simon it looks like you may have done this before haha, I'll go purchase some axel stands then. It's the only hose that won't come off!

Dave thanks fo the offer, I'm in Earley so only 2 mins away but the car isn't roadworthy at the minute. Perhaps when i've done the radiator you could have a look at the bumper side bracket and give me your second opinion?

It's easy - please don't waste your money.
You can pull the hose off without having to raise the car but by just getting underneath it and pulling.

EDIT: Move away when the hose comes off as you'll be showered in coolant.

Well the clip on the engine end had completely siezed. I'm a novice with all this so it may be a stupid question. Can I get a mini grinder to go through the clip without having to drain the fuel lines? I.e is their a risk of sparking?

If you mean the jubilee clip and if it is one without a screwhead (ie. original peugeot one) you can 'wangle' these off with a screw driver.

If it's one with a crosshead screw head you can normally fit a 7mm socket over to help undo and gain extra leverage.
Try teasing it with a chisel (large screw driver) and hammer. You'll probably be able to snap/twist/mangle it enough and it will eventually snap.

Replace with a stainless steel jubilee clip, they don't rust. wink

I may be wrong but as far as I remember when you remove the slam panel and then the front grill you should be able to free the radiator from its mounting position. Thus allowing additional space to remove the offending hose.

Yep, you can do that but I think the OP has the GTI-6 engine installed. The inlet manifold doesn't give as muchspace for moving the cowling or rad.

Timmer - is the car outside or in a garage? If you pm me your details I may be able to pop past this weekend and take a look. Just got my mi16 back on the road so it'll be an excuse for a drive (snow depending of course!)

Hey guys,

In response: Yeah it is a GTI6 thus leaving little room. The cross member and grille have been removed it is literally a pipe that seems to be seized/glued to the rad and one end with a rusted seized jubilee clip. I can't remove the bumper/spoiler for the side impact bar is bent.

I'm going to have another go this weekend as it is in my parents garage. Cheers for the offers of help but i'd feel kind of embarassed to get people over for a rusty jubilee clip haha.

Thanks for the offers though and if i can't remove it this weekend then I may have to swallow my pride and ask for help.

Cheers, Timmer.

Hi,

Just to add to this thread, does anybody know where I can buy single hoses from? Have tried a couple of companies but they are yet to get back to me.

Cheers
