ive just taken on a 106 gti which is one stepping stone further towards the mi16 205 gti ive always longed for.
i took the car as a part ex for my glanza v and im having a few problems, first of all pads and discs on rear are shot, theyre getting fixed this week and theres a small issue with a knock to the drivers side wheel, ive been informed by a mate that he can sort that ( no idea what it is myself)

but the question i want answering at the minute is how on earth do you put foglights and dipped beams on at the same time, now im not sure if the previous owner rigged the lights up wrong or something but at the moment i can have them all off or i can have full beams and fogs or i can have dipped beams
and the dipped beams on their own are rubbish.

anyone know if this is normal or if i can change it?

thanks

106 gti

The spot lights in the bumper will only ever come on when high beam is on .
So you will go from seeing nothing with dip beam on to seeing the world when high beam is on and in a hedge when you dip them again as your back to cack lights and seeing nothing ......

They're not fog lights, they're "driving lamps". They only come on when on full beam. Same on the 205 (and most other older Peugeots I have encountered).

thanks for the confirmation on that, just doesnt seem sensible, but well.... it is french.

another question i have had a small knock noise when steering is on full lock, ive been told this may be the suspension strut top and by jacking the car up undoing the top squirting abit of wd40 in i should be able to stop it.?
any advice?

Could be a number of things. The standard top mounts are like butter, first step is a bolt on strut brace (get a bottom one too, while you're at it). If that doesn't stop it, get some decent mounts.

Also look at the rack (could be loose on fixings), and CVs.

To be honest I wouldn't be that worried by it. I've only worried when it starts to knock and shudder through the wheel at driving speeds.

Knock could be top mounts, drop links, ball joint or CV joint. Don't hide it with strut braces, it'll only get worse or something will break completely and parts are cheap, plentiful and easy to fit yourself.
