I have a mi16 205 and i keep popping the exhaust joint under the gear lever area!

my mi16 is running a 4 branch manifold and where the 4 goes into 2 and then turns under the car this is where is keeps popping off!
i have tried everything to stop this happening, tried 2 new cilps at a cost of over £20 but still pops off
ive put new baker bm engine mounts as i thought the engine was moving too much but that didnt stop it
ive put on new motorsport exhaust mounts, but nothing seems to work!!!

Can anyone give me any ideas of how i could try and stop this happening?? as when the hwole exhaust comes off it shakes the car to pieces, makes me deaf, and deafens everyone in a 4 mile radius!!!

I'm guessing its a flanged joint? Do the 2 surfaces easily meet or do you have to pull the back section forward to get a decent joint? It's got to be a fair amount of force to break the clips completely.

If you've changed the engine and exhaust mounts and it's all lining up well then i'd just get it welded up!

On a side note.. I got mine through the MOT so should be bringing it out soon!

hiya

they joint is a standard exhaust one, with one section going inside the other, and then the clamp goes around the outside of it to squeeze it all together!! i have thought of welding it but if i can pop it of easily when its clamped im afraid of cracking the welds or something, just seems that
even though i have bake bm mounts something in the engine bay is still moving around.

im presuming no one else has had this problem then??

And good that yours has got mot, mine need some tlc!!

If it's a normal male/female joint then something doesn't sound right. The clamp should only be there to apply some pressure to seal the join. The 2 parts should mate well enough so that all the exhaust mounts hold it in place. If the join is actually being pulled apart then it's probably a problem with the rear section mounts?

Edmunds in Winnersh are pretty helpful if you just want to put it on a ramp and take much closer look...but I would look at the exhaust mounts again, maybe see if you can change their orientation so there's positive pressure pushing the main section forwads?
