I am thinking of getting a Clio 172. I have read loads of reports that they are superb to drive so I will be test driving one later. here are the details of the car, what are peoples thoughts on the specification and price of this one?

Anything i should look out for before I commit to buying?

Your just looking for the usual really. Listen for any knocks while acelerating, knocks from the top mounts are an easy fix. The belts should have been done at that age, if they havnt knock £500 off the price. Id be slightly wary of 1 lady owner - check for any damage repair wink

Well its slightly overpriced, and no mention of cam or Aux Belt change which adds £500-600 as it will be overdue. But apart from that check engine/gearbox mounts, exhaust corrosion and dampers mainly.

Been to drive it! It went well but it looked to me to have had a front end accident... the wings were misaligned, and it had none original seam sealer... Guess I will look for another.

It went well though...

The clutch felt a little heavy, is that normal?

Could get a tidy 182 for that much.

I'd look on the above site and some of the other owner's clubs.

Cliosport.net is probably worth a look aswell.

Yeah I agree, it's quite expensive. You gotta remember that's it's a six year old car which has had an accident! You could get a newer quicker better looking 182 for that much. Insurance is a little more but it'll be worth it. Have u considered a 206 gti 180. Phwooaaarrr, nice motor! (slightly biased!)

I've just bought a 172 cup. absolutely over the moon with it. Couldn't want more from a car.

I've test driven a 206 gti and it's not a touch on the clio.

As said, that one is way over priced.... have an ask on cliosport.net plenty of great cars in the classifieds and loads of good advice available.

A 206 GTi isn't, but the a GTi 180 come's much closer. Not quite as good as a 182 i'll admit, but got a good review from Top Gear. Clarkson loved the GTi 180.

Well, I upped the budget a little and got myself a nice red 2005 182 Trophy. Very nice it is too!

Been driving it around for a few days now after doing a few maintenance jobs on it. it goes and handles extremely well, I am pleased with the car!

thanks guys

As above, get yourself on cliotrophy. It's a quiet forum though, for gen advice cliosport.net is good, just ignore the neds. And the TT drivers.
