Hey there PHer's, just bought a 2003 pug 206 gti 180, this is my first REAL car after buzzing around in corsa 12v and the likes. I'm gonna use the car for fast road and general use 95% of the time but I will be doing the occasional track day next summer. I was wondering if any of you could help. I want to get the power up to around 220 bhp and 190 ft/lb of torque aswell as keeping the driveability fairly good too. My aim is to st all over the type r and Clio 182's that the rest if the sheep go for. Any help would be spot on as I'm new to this forum and the proper modifying world. Oh yeah, any recommendations for decent rubber, I'm thinking of Yokohama S drives.

Sort the suspension out with some Eibach Coilovers, then the awful gearchange with a GE quickshift, then id suggest some decent tyres, ie not s-drives. You should also swop the heavy 17's for the standard gti 16" nimrods & uprate the brakes with say DS2500 pads, braided lines & Brembo HC discs.

Once all that is done, get some driver tuition - it will make you far quicker than just going for extra power.

You'll need cams & throttle bodies to get anywhere near 220bhp, which will be at least £3k.

And you still wont know which way the 1*2 went.

Thanks dave, maybe 220 was a little optimistic! Would you reccomend going for a full s/s cat back system like janspeed for example or just de catting the standard? I know this isn't the hottest hatch around and will need money spent and bks like rugby balls to keep up with the type r's etc but I like the exclusivity of it! Also is it worth going for a full induction kit or an upgraded panel filter. Sorry for the noob questions btw

I dont know much (anything) about 206's but unless your going to spend lots (at least 4k) its not really worth trying to tune NA engines like these, its not easy to get any more power.

Sorting the chassis is alot better value (speed) for money.

Cheers Ian, so it's worth getting a decent set of coilovers and having them set up for fast road and track rather than spending 1.5k on under bonnet mods. Could you reccomend a good set of road tyres as I'll buy cut slicks and lightweight 16" wheels for track use.

Why bother?

Keep you car as a comfortable fast fun road car. For the few times you take it on the track i would be adding to much grip with supersoft tyres as these will add additional stresses onto the shocks, bushes, etc...

Unless you really go tot town you'll find that the car will always fail at the weakest point. Starting with tyres this will go up the suspension and drivetrain until you end up with a rosebushed trpile plate clutched car that is fantastic on track, but a pig on the road.
