I've only just bought my 205 gti and was driving down the road this afternoon when my brakes seemed to have stopped working for a while.

I hit the brake pedal and it travelled all the way to the floor, let the pedal come back up and it worked fine then. This happened 3 times in 10 minutes while travelling in traffic.

Can anyone shed any light on the problem?

I did 400 miles on Saturday with no issues whatsoever.

Thanks

Thanks.

Don't see any leaks so I'll order a new master cylinder.

I've just checked on Euro Car Parts and there is 6 to choose from - very confusing!

You should get the correct one if you give reg` no of car, diameter 20mm or 19mm (you can see it on the side of the m/cyl housing)and the number of brake pipes going in.

Got the master cylinder changed today. The brakes still feel a bit spongy and when stopped (engine on) pumping the brake I can hear a "squelching" sound - is it air in the pipes?

The brake pedal doesn't travel as far as before but doesn't bite as early as I thought after replacing the cylinder.

Any advice gents?

Thanks

Have the brakes been bled correctly?
Could be worn hoses flexing under pressure.
Any fluid loss from unions or bleed nipples?

after bleeding a system from (nearly) empty, as you will have done having changed the M/C, I always rebleed after a few hundred miles to get the last of the air bubbles out. Definitely worth doing this before you start replacing stuff. Provided, of course, that nothing is visibly leaking!

Hoses look to be in good condition.

There doesn't seem to be any leaking, will try and bleed them this weekend.

Thanks.

If its a 1.9 you have? Its very difficult to get the air through the rear calipers.
