Hi there

I've been looking at several 182's on autotrader and I'm slightly confused about the different versions.

Some of the ones I've seen didn't have rear headrests or Renault Sport stitched into the seats - what model would they be?

Thanks

With the two white stripes? I think thats another version altogether. RenaultSport really went to town on model variations with this age Clio and Megane

Correct. 182 Cups had no climate control either. It does have aircon and ABS as standard though, unlike the 172 cup.

Without getting into 172's....

Normal 182 - has all the toys (xenons etc)

182 with Cup Packs - as above but with stiffer/lower suspension (chassis pack)and larger spoiler/splitter. Most cars have both packs but they could be ordered seperatly. Often missing the splitter (original is very brittle). The chassis cup pack can be identified by the anthracite wheels (but these could have been added later) The only sure fire way to tell is to measure the distance between the 2 bolts that hold the strut to the hub/upright. If its 60mm it has the chassis cup pack. This different bolt spacing does rather restrict the coilover options if thats your thing.

182 cup - as above but minus the toys. Does not have the weight saving or rawness of the 172 cup.

as far as i am aware, there is 3 varients of the 182

standard 182,
182 cup
182 trophy (limited edition of 500 and considered the best clio along with the original williams according to evo magazine).

Close, but standard 182's can be cupped too, like the 197/200's, these usually have anthracite wheels and lower stance, although this is not fool proof as many have had the wheels sprayed and lowered- always look for ones owned by people in the know.

I want a 182 Trophy one day, only 17 at the moment, plan to get a Twingo 133 in 5-6 years as they have a fairly low insurance group (8). The clio trophy will be cheaper but insurance more as it is group (16).

With 5 years no claims, a Twingo is 650 quid, fully comp.

No, live in cheshire, north west. That was only quick quote with Adrian Flux on one of the Twingo's for sale in the classifieds, i have not gone visited a comparison website, i am sure there are cheaper quotes there based on 5-6 years NCB.
