Don't try this at home

Gave the Clio a bit of a blat and parked it on my drive, sloped down towards the house. 20 minutes later I heard a loud bang which shook the house. When I opened the front door my car had travelled about 20 feet down the drive and crashed into the house. Handbrake was on. Brembro brakes work very well when they are hot but as soon as they cool they shrink and release from the disk. Be warned !
Yep, use to happen on my R26 which is why i always leave my cars in gear now!
Happened to a friend of mine when he came to my house, heard a noise looked out to see his car had rolled about 100ft down the road into a neighbours car, when we got to his car it was clear the hand brake was on but obviously not enough to hold the car once the brakes had cooled down.

I feel for you. I left my 200 outside my place after a hoon, and I found it next morning rolled out of the parking space ( fortunately no obstacles )
Seems pretty common then?
I experienced this too, the scary moment of "I'm sure i left the handbrake on!" Seems pretty common then?
I try to remember to park the 306 with the front wheels facing the curb instead of leaving it in gear, knowing SWMBO will just get in and start it.

NoI have been driving for 31 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened. I think its the brembo brakes. Over the years I've had many performance cars, spanked them and left them parked with just the handbrake on. None have moved.
The car is now parked in gear.
So is the brake shoes which come into play with the handbrake on, the same ones used for stopping the car? So they would be hot after a drive and cooled after standng, is that why it happened>
Just curious, I do know my S80 has disc brakes, and internal brake shoes for the handbrake, so I guess my one cant cool and release. (I saw the RAC man take the bits out - but thats another story)
I dont know that much of the internal bits of cars these days, I leave that to the garage.

I do.My Dad's old Peugeot 306 once did that - into the garage door. It was a £1000+ job to replace the door. Car was fine.
Ever since that, i've always left cars in gear - much to the wife's disatisfaction as she always used to forget to check prior to turning the key.
The rear brakes arn't Brembo, are they?
Anyway, getting your brakes hot then leaving the handbrake on is a certain way to get pad build up on your discs and/or contribute to warping the discs!
Always have a cooling down period after a spirited drive if you intend on using the handbrake.
Or if you have to, apply the handbrake with the footbrake firmly, avoiding having to use excessive force on the handbrake assembly.

Trackday essential habit - never put the handbrake on just after you come in off the track, the brakes can be so hot, the pads can stick on the disc, or warp the disc, or even fire!
