Hi,

Need to replace the front discs/pads for the G/F's Renualt Clio 1.2 16v 53 plate.

Just had a quote from quick fit of £170 (which included 15% discount and free fitting), then looked on eBay and found these for £25 :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FRONT-BRAKE-DISCS-PADS-RENAU...

Basically, is there something wrong with the eBay ones ? Why the massive price difference ? Are Kwik Fit just over priced ?

Thanks in advance,

J.

Quick edit, found these as well : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FRONT-BRAKE-DISCS-PADS-RENAU...

They are £33, but they say they are for the same make/model ?

Edit 2 : It would appear from ringing around that Kwik Fit were just trying to chatge me the earth, so now the only thing I am stuck on is Bendix or Lucas pads, how do I check ?

Lol, they say free fitting but it isn't.

Anyway, why do you want to be so stingy on your girlfriends car? I don't understand people who put cheap tyres and/or brakes on cars...

Just ring up Bennets and get some discs and pads. If they ask which pad make, ask for both as long as you can return the ones you don't need!

Being stingy ???

Who in life would pay £207 when they can get exactly the same thing for less than half the price anywhere else ?

The brakes are no different, they are the same thing, but cheaper if not from Kwik Fit.

I guess thanks for the help, but don't understand your stingy comment ?

Gone for Halfords anyway, £61 and fit them myself. Discs and pads + free fitting for £61 or discs and pads + free fitting from Kwik Fit for £207 ? Not stingy, just not stupid wink

The first ebay link you posted was of non-vented discs!

Maybe it's just me, but buying discs and pads off of ebay full stop, seem's a bit stingy...and you wouldn't be the first person to say taking your car to Kwik Fit would be stupid and trust me, it's nothing to do with the price!

Yes do it yourself, thats a ridiculous quote. Front pads and discs for a 182 can be had for £75 and fitted yourself so for a 1.2 can only be cheaper.

I'm not sure about buying bits off ebay though unless confident in the seller, I would rather get them from my local motor factors or a company online who is established in selling spares.

I was quite suprised at just how cheap you can get brake discs.

Eurocarparts do some really cheap ones for my clio.

I've seen some Brembo Max ones on Ebay, and will probably go with them. £100 delivered, so cheaper than most other places I've seen.

Don't see the problem in getting them from Ebay, if it's from a top rated seller with nearly 100% postitive feedback, I wouldn't have thought there could be much wrong with them.

Also, I wouldn't say it's stingy. It's only a 1.2 clio (no offence), so it's hardly a performance car, I expect those discs are similar spec to what Renault would have fitted to the car originally.

The seller has a massive amount of feedback and all positive, rather than getting the ones on eBay, it was more an indicator that if Kwik Fit were £207, how are they so cheap elsewhere.

After doing some investigating today, it turns out Kwik Fit are just massive rip off merchants and I shall now never go to them again.

Thanks for the replies smile

Same could be said for tyres...Nexen's are similar to the Michelins they fit from stock, so why pay the extra?

Up to you, but I'll never skank on brakes or tyres. Oil, air filters...yes...not the two most fundamental items when it comes to safety I won't. But that's just my opinion!

Oh and Kwik Fit are stating free fitment, but as you can see within their price they are not fitting for free. The fitment cost is covered in the over-inflated parts prices.

No one will sell labour for free. That would be stupid.

I was never planning on 'skanking' on the brakes, not only does my misses use it, but my kids go in the car as well, so wouldn't happen.

The whole point was, why are Kwik Fit £207 when they seem so cheap elsewhere ? Anyway, like I said, will be going to Halfords and Kwik Fit are scammers smile

I agree aswell, I would never fit budget tyres etc to any car I'd own.

I remember on the RS forum, some girl had put budget tyres on her 197, then had an accident or something on a country road. Basically, came down to bad driving and the budget tyres. Serves her right, really. You don't buy a RS Clio and then put buget tyres on it.

My work car has budget tyres, if it's even slightly damp they're useless. They were already fitted when the car was bought, though.
