Hi all, long time lurker but first post, so in at the deep end...

Just been told I need a new rear axle as it's seized and now the rear drivers tire is rubbing against the bodywork - clearly not good.

In a massive hurry to get this sorted so are there many of these left kicking about, how much are they and can anyone recommend a decent breakers who'll be able to source me one?

Don't particularly want rid of the ZX as otherwise it's bombproof but not interested in throwing money away,

Cheers!

Where I you based? A Citroen Mechanic I know a few miles away from Bristol airport might be able to help. Aparently the ZX has passive rear wheel steering.

I think its the same axle as the Peugeot306? is yours drum or disc or ABS when asking for one.Trouble with second hand is the one you get may be just as good as yours!!they are old cars so finding a good one may be hard.Is your ZX worth spending £350 on? if so go to www.sspengineering.co.uk A full recon unit ready to fit delivered to your door or if your in Devon fitted for the same price.I`ve used them a number of times.

£350 - hmmmm...

Not including labour and to sort the rest of the MOT that'll be £600 and I can't imagine fitting a rear axle is a 5 minute job.

Looks like I'll be scrapping it then unfortunately.

Cheers for the help guys, appreciate it.

What indeed ,for reliability/lack of breaking down, and ease of repair the zx and 306 are hard to beat.Very few inherent expensive faults.

It depends on how worn it is tbh, it may be a simple case of replacing the bearings (which i happen to keep in stock as it happens - OE items but cheaper) but if the tube is worn it's game over for it, which to be frank in most cases if 'seized' it could well be.

As said though, 306 and Xsara beams are the same so would bolt straight on.

As asked, whereabouts are you? As there's a few specialists about that i could recommend.

Does anyone know if the 206 shares its rear axle with anything else. Think I might be going down the route of needing a whole new one as mine is shot and is seems like it might cost a lot to get fixed. Will have to start looking soon so if i can look for 206 and something else may increase the options. Its a 206 GTI if that helps. Might be easier just to change the whole lot.
