Recently brought a clio 172 ph1 it has now done 73300 brought it on 72000, the cambelt was done at this time but the aux belt and water pump wasnt, it makes a whining noise coming from near cambelt area, went to a few garages and they have said that the cambelt is too tight, a friend of mine said it could be the water pump, or power steering pump as it makes a noise of full lock, can some one please help before i throw money it to it frown many thanks

You can eliminate the power steering pump, by putting the car on hard full lock. If the noise gets worse, when holding it on hard full lock - then the it's the power steering pump.

The normal way to determin whether a noise is from the auxillaries, or the timing belt, is to remove the auxillary belt. But on these it's not an easy job!

Either way, you do not want a whining noise from your timing end on a Renault. Even if it's auxillary side of things (water pump/power steering) if the belt fails for whatever reason, they have been known to ingest into the timing belt through the bottom pulley - I advise taking it to a professional.
