Ren Scenic parking brake fault
Discussion
Hello all. My '54 grand scenic has developed a problem with applying the hand brake, it now instead beeps once at me upon startup and flashes the red light on the handbrake lever.
There's nothing I can think of which has caused it to stop working although I've had to recently removed & recharge the battery. Following this it's prompted to 'check parking brake' but it was still applying fine. About a month later it just stopped applying the brake. MOT isn't due for another 5months but so have a bit of time to suss it out.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
- Next stop would be to remove the batt for 24hrs and give it a full charge
- Then check if power is even getting to the motors which tighten the brake

Dis-connecting and re-connecting the batteries can sometimes cure glitches. However, if it's not not working the chances are it's a problem with the switch itself (have replaced a few of these in my time).
Half an hours diag. at a Renault Stealer should be sufficeint time to diagnose the fault with a clip test and a seeing what faults it's got, then viewing the fault finding procedure attatched to the fault code/s. It's not a complicated system...
Good luck.
Edit to say:-
There is a recall on the majority of these Scenic's now. It's just a patch update for the software, but you should have/or will receive a red letter from Renault asking you to go to a main Stealer to get the update (for free). When they go to do the reprogram, they will have to check the program code and whilst they're in there, they will be able to view what faults it has. So you might be able to get a quick "free" diag. if you play innocent.
