Has anyone got experience of both, and if so is the Rallye that much better?

I understand that they're the same car, minus some electric gubbins and a bit of soundproofing, or am i wrong? I'm unsure if the Rallye is going to be that easy day to day compared the comforts of the GTI-6....

They drive exactly the same, Rallye is preferable as there is less to break ...

You lose leccy windows, A/C, sunroof and err.....leccy mirros maybe? Very little difference in the scheme of things. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for a Rallye (pay more for less???)!! Buy the best you can find.

Just about 20 kg difference, otherwise everything the same+you need air-cond. in GTI-6

Gti-6 it is then, never going to make the most of the extra 20kg's everyday driving but leccy windows and AC makes a difference.

Problem is there seems to be a few Rallyes with good miles and unmolested/badly modded but very few GTi-6's in a clean state.

There's a thread in General Discussion with a lad wondering over a GTI-6 as well. A couple of alright looking cars for sale at the moment. Good luck with the search - very fun little frog.

I'm returning to the UK in October and so need a cheapish car (<4k) but importantly the insurance might preclude a GTi-6. I'm 34 but my uk bonus disappeared a year ago so have to start from scratch and dread to think what the insurance on a GTi-6 would be with no ncb!

I ran a 306xsi a few years ago and absolutely loved it so hoping the gti-6 wont feel too old...

That sounds like it might be pricey but always worth a pop. I doubt you'd be disappointed with a 6 if you could find a low mileage example. Mine makes a bit of noise but the gearbox and engine feel strong and the ride is good. I suspect the biggest issue is torsional rigidity - it simply doesn't feel as stiff as a modern hatch. I'm tempted to try a strut brace to see if this seems to improve matters. the ride is brilliant though - sails over potholes!

Tried a strut brace in my phase2 xsi, I noticed only a marginal difference.
The rallye 306 also deletes the front "fog" lights. Aircon was still an option though.

There seems to be more well-preserved rallyes, and more barry'd gti6s. Rallyes in nice condition seem to be going for at least £2.5k, while original gti6s for about £2(ish). There's a nice white 106 rallye (ph2) in the 'trader this week...

Dont know where the 20kg has come from, the weight difference is 52kg~.

They are the same car, if you like your luxuries (ac, auto wipers, half leather, electric windows/mirrors/more soundproofing) then get a gti6.

I had a rallye and quite enjoyed the exclusivity of driving 1 of 500 but i i'd happy have a gti6.
