306 cam belt change?
Discussion
He's quite right though ,one of my employees put off the timing belt change on his berlingo. The day he decided to do it it broke, 3 miles from work.Snapped the camshaft and the cam bearing caps ,bent 4 valves .It cost over £500 instead of £15 for the belt and two hours of his time.Unlucky?

If you are anywhere near leicester check go to CG cars there he knows his stuff.
any mechanic, trainee mechanic or weekend diy'er will beable to a cambelt on a 306, it certainly doesnt warrant a special trip anywhereswannynhb said:

Ok cool. Out of interest why is the cambelt so prone to premature failure on the gti? Also does this problem affect the xsi ?
Thanks for the above comments people (cg cars). Its strange really why the belts break there is no real answer to be honest, sometimes a pully thats driven by the belt dies and take the belt with it or the belt itself just breaks, the 1.8 and 2.0 16 valve engines had the intervals halved so i would get them replaced if you are near the mileage, still today we see 3 or 4 cars in the garage with this issue.
We even seen a 407 last week with a timing belt interval of 140k break at 52k so sometimes its just unlucky.
