Help, please, 306 HDI starting problems

Well for a short while now I`ve had intermitent starting problems. I`ve got new glow plugs and they work as I took one out connected it to the glowplug circuit, earthed it to the battery and it`s fine. When it does fire and run it hunts a bit when cold on tickover, when the engine is warm it`s fine. I`ve got fuel all the way to the high pressure mechanical pump, obviously on start the pump pressurises the diesel rail, should this pressure dissipate when the engine is switched off ? After searching the internet maybe someone on here can give me a few pointers as I`m stumpes Thanks in advance.
