Cambelt snapped : 02 Megane Coupe

Folks,

Just had a call from a colleague to say that his cambelt has snapped (as diagnosed by the AA at the roadside)..

It's an 02 plate 1.6 16v..

Any thoughts on just how extensive the damage is going to be? I'm not familiar with this engine, so don't know whether it's an interference job or not.. He reports that no horrible noises were heard during the failure (although he does tend to listen to VERY loud music!) and it just totally lost power...

That`ll be expensive then. Valves will be bent etc etc. Best bet is an exchange head from the dealer, circa £500 includes all followers, hydraulic tappets, valves etc ready to fit.
