206 gti clicking noise...axle?

My mrs has a 2000 206 gti which has just covered 100k, its got an intermitten clicking/knocking noise coming from the rear end. Ive had the exhaust off and cant see any problems in that area. Im wondering could the axle make this kind of noise ? ive read its a bit of a weak spot on these cars.

Yeah the rear arm bearings can click when they dry out. They can click, creak or squeek!

Thanks, are the bearings an easy change or is it a new or secondhand axle?

Depends how far gone they are as theywear away the inside of the tube, only way to tell is to strip it down.
