I'm trying to improve the engine stability in a friends Clio (1.6 16V RSI 2001). The car had a new "Dog Bone" around 8 months ago which improved the situation no end but the problem has gradually returned. I suspect the dog bone has worn again along with the other mounts.

I'm thinking about replacing the upper gearbox mount and RH top engine mount with 172/182 items and replacing the "Dog Bone" mounts with Poly parts (PowerFlex).

I've also notice that the 172/182 has an additional gearbox mount/steady (shown in this Ebay advert http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Renault-clio-172-cup-gearbox... does anyone know if this fits the 16V RSI?

The car is really being let down by the amount of engine movement.

replaced the dogbone mount in my 172 Cup with a Powerflex - apparently this will move the problem onto the next mount which will than fail etc etc until you have replaced them all

guys im a newbie i've just purchased a 2003 clio 1.5dci.Ive a noise from osf in uneven road or certain bumps ive put car on pit and jacked up to allow suspension to hang free everything we checked was fine but when we drove it with wheels off ground engine mounts kicks when accelerating or changing gears.i did a bit of google and found a thread from 2003 where a lot of clio owners were having same symptoms as me and they all tied it back to top engine mount but replacing it only helped for a short time and thud would return. anyone having the same problem? please let me know thanks a lot.

I've replaced my dogbone mount with a powerflex one too.... but, as said, it will just ruin your other mounts. I'm going to buy solid mounts at the end of month, but they're not for everyone.

My genuine Renault mounts have lasted about 10k miles, that also includes a few trackdays and ring visits but even so it's pretty poor!

I've looked at getting solid mounts myself but i've seen a few pictures that have been putting me off getting them, mainly a snapped casting mounting the upper main mount to the engine.

Just wish the R-Sport mounts weren't so expensive!!
