Gave Flux a ring. Really surprised how little it was!!!!

The first first thing i wanted to improve on the car was the gear change. The gearbox is a gti-6 one but is very loose( have been told this is normal for the age?. I read that you can get a "quick shift kit" anybody got any info about them? are they any good, easy to fit? price, etc?

The other question to the massive was about seats, the 1.6 ones in this car are worn and torn etc exactly the same happen on my last Gti, so i thought i would replace them with the 1.9 half leather seats, but then i expect these all to have have a lot wear aswell. So what are my options? what have you guys done?

my first opinion, is is lose the 6 speed box.

you could buy a half leather set of seats and use a good bolster out of your old passenger seat

As said already said lose the gti6 box. You'll want to find a 1.6 gti box (shorter ratios than the 1.9) and as for the quick shift it is a very easy modification to do yourself without spending any money. Simply remove the 'L' shaped gear linkage that bolts to the subframe (you'll see it if you look down by the exhaust manifold and follow the gear rods from the box) and re-position the ball joint on the shorter arm so that it is 15-20mm closer to the swivel axis - either by cutting and welding it, or by drilling a new hole and fitting a new ball joint, which you can buy off ebay.

Theres a more detialed description on 205gtidrivers i think, if you can find it email me and i'l send you a diagram.

As for seats. The standard cloth seats wear terribly, the half leather ones seam to last alot better. Either look at buying a decent second hand set (you can always get the drivers bolster re-paired) or buy some nice bucket seats smile

I'd agree about the 'box - the 1.6 BE3 unit is a much better option as the ratios are better and it fits in better, usually fitting the GTI6 box limits the lock of the steering.

I'm not a great fan of the quick shift, I prefer the standard arrangement as it is better spaced and just as 'quick' if in good nick.

Just out of interest, What sort of fighures are you guys paying for your insurance?

I hav just rung flux up and the best they could do for me on an MI16 plus other upgrades (suspension brakes, exhaust etc) similar to what I have atm was only a smidge under £1000 tpft . I know Im only 21 but Adrimral (who Im currently with) are only charging £340 for a car of similar spec but with a 152bhp 8v (again all mods declared.

I would like either an MI or GTi-6 for a better starting platform but just couldn't justify that sort of insurance for a second car.

I'm 36.
Around £480
Classic insurance policy limited to 5kmiles
FC
Breakdown cover
All mods insured.
Agreed value policy.

Loads eh! We live near to a dodgy postcode which translates as a high premium.
Better though than the £1000 it was 10 years ago and standard!

26, 4 years NCB, Mi16, suspension mods, garaged, reasonably bad insurance post code (LS15). £400ish from Flux with the Flux Rescue (£50). That's TPFT though.

not looking great so far, I'm seriously considering a set of carbs for the 8v now though, plus when the time comes that I can justify the 2.0, It won't be that hard to swap them back over again if i choose right.
