Hi guys need some dianostic help.

Got the clio serviced at JMS in uxbridge (clio specialists) on thursday, new cam and aux belts and a 60k service.

However the drive home was not the greatest, the car felt a lot tighter in general and i was pretty happy, however by the time i got home (only 1 hr drive) the exhaust note was considerably louder from under the middle of the car. I could hear a louder rumble in the passengers foot well.

also when idle the car started idleing a little lumpy. even to the point where i could feel the car lurching forward at some traffic lights.

I have today managed to get under the car and cant notice a blow or a hole in the exhaust anywhere.

the car fires up no problem, but does run lumpy and louder from under the car.

At one point it sounded like it was going to stall but the revs were still idling above 1000 revs

So now i cant work out what the problem is the only other thing i can think of is a plug or coil pack which i need to take a look at.

Is there anyone in the wandsworth clapham area fancy coming and having a look at it for me, or can anyone help me diagnose the problem??

Not sure where the lambda sensor is on a clio, but if the hole/gap in the exhaust is 'upwind' of the sensor (between sensor and engine), then it will cause poor running as the ecu will be seeing a lean mixture.

Cam timing not quite correct ? None of the camshaft or crank sprockets are keyed, they rely purely on torque of nuts/bolts to hold them in place. It is very easy for things to move a tad when fitting the belt.
Whatever is wrong get it back to said Clio experts in Uxbridge, let them sort it out.

Hi mate sounds like the timing has moved very slightly, when doing the belts on these engines its very easy to get it out even slightly and thats with the special locking tools ( I asume the garage does have the flat bar for locking the cams and the pin for the crank, if not and they have just used the old tipex trick on the pulleys then it will defo be out) I honestly would not drive it mate cause my time at renault i seen loads of belt failures on these engine and the DO mash valves. But get it on the diagnostic machine as we might be jumping the gun with the belt, you never know there may be a fault thats just happened..............yes most customers would not believe this but it can happen
