Hi,

I'm thinking of changing my car and quite fancy a Citroen C4, probably the 3-door. I'm thinking of either the 1.6 or 2.0 litre diesel. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad on either or any specifics of what to look for, along with real world MPG figures?

I'd be looking at an 06-08 car.

I've found a few MPG figures, but knowing factory figures don't always equate to real life numbers, I'd appreciate any feedback anyone might have.

Thanks in advance.

I've had a 1.6 for 4 years now 48mpg average, its had new rear shocks ,rear wheel bearing and discs and pads all round.
I love driving it but it has to go before the turbo does, get a 2.0 more power and much more reliable in the engine/turbo.

Thanks for that smile

Are the turbo's an achilles heal with them, or do you mean yours has done a lot of miles?

I was thinking of a 2.0 to be honest. I think that with my daily journey (55 mile round trip, mainly dual carriageway) I would be as well with a lower working big engine than a higher stressed 1.6. Does anyone run a 2.0l?

How many miles have you done in yours? Just thinking that rear shocks are a bit worrying if it hasn't done that many, I'd imagine they weren't cheap?!

I also need something to tow a trailer (with broken down motorbikes on it mainly!) behind it. Can you fit a towbar to the three-door?

It had 9500miles on it when we bought it ,it's now done 48000,shocke were £65 each. But thats nothing compared to the rear discs which went at 18000 and were dealer part only at £105 each.I took them off and had the skimmed.
Problem with the discs is they come with abs ring and wheel bearing fitted .I have some to fit next week and they have come down to £54.
Apparently the turbo problem on the 1.6hdi is caused by poor injector spray contaminating the oil which then sludges up and blocks the oil ways.Even after numerous engine flushes you cannot shift the sludge and the replacement turbo fails ...and repeat process.the only cure is a replacement engine. This seems to occur at higher mileages.
I suggest to customers they have interim oil changes and a flush every other time to try and combat this.
