Hey,

I am a new member, sorry if this has been posted before,

Its time for an upgrade and am considering all the hot hatches and also a Nissan 350z. I have a 13k budget and the fuel consumption will not be an issue. Was wondering what experiences you guys and girls have had?! long term reliability issues etc?

Have been out in the mk 5 gti and although a very nice car, was a little borring for me. maybe too good if that makes sense! have not seen many of the meganes around which seems like a good thing! or do people not buy them for a reason?

Thanks

I recently test drove a 350Z and an F1 back to back. For me (and this is just down to my own preference for RWD) the 350Z was more fun.

The F1 had a little torque steer and the turbo was barely noticeable. It was very accomplished in the handling dept but felt a little tall and the interior was not a very inspiring place to be.

I then test drove a new Clio 200 Cup and if i were after one of those two my money would be going on the Clio.

The Zed held the road really well, allowed you to play with the rear and felt a lot more special (imo) and so that was the one that went to the top of my list for replacements.

Best bet is simply to drive both and see which car you prefer and which one suits your driving style best smile

thanks for the reply's would definatley consider the Clio, have yet to see one on the roads, how does the clio differ from the megane? i know it has no turbo but guessing its quite a bit lighter and more nimble, has anyone had experience in driving both of these?

Where abouts are you based mate, if you want the ultimate r26 then go for the r26r, the Clio 200 is a very nimble car, if you go for a 200 go for a version with the cup pack, there is also the new megane 250 maybe worth a try, renault are setting up specialist Renault Sport performance centres so they should have the range for test drive. Hope this helps Rob

What is the budget mate? Also as horrible as it sounds how about the unfocused st or astra vxtorque-steer or to deff throw something random in there the Vxr zaffy as that's 1 very fast 7seater and some of the early ones are up for bargin prices

Lol no worries about the Vxr, if your going for an st make sure it's an st2 or st3 as the st1 is the poverty spec, if you do go for an st have a look at graham goodie (think that's what it's called) there st tuners. It all comes down to what size car you want if it's just yourself and maybe 1 other then a Clio sized car I think would be more fun also you could nearly get a brand new 1 if not a new one with pcp

You'll be lucky to find an ST 1 lol! Go for the 3,more desireable and best spec, want your ST tuned? Graham Goode are a quality company,Pumaspeed or Collins Performance are other good sources for more power, choose a package that suits you best

If your still looking for 1 you could do a lot worse than this one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2010...

It's owned by MrGman on here and is a very good example.

It is a nice R26biggrin

It's been on the autotrader for 2 days and i'm still not sure i want to sell it. My last car was a clio trophy and i quite fancy something completely different at the moment but every time i take the meg out i love it and decide i've been stupid for advertising it!

If it sells i can get something different if it doesn't then i certainly won't be disappointed.

The RS250 has been in the showrooms for about a month now and some people have even taken delivery, take a look on www.meganesport.net a lot of different opinions on there from people who have moved from the R26 to the RS250.

If you go for a Clio I'd get a late example 197.

That way you won't cringe everytime you have to look at the thing from either the outside or inside.;)

I currently own an r26.r & had a 350z in the past. The reason for me wanting the meg was as a ring car with manufacturers warrenty & it dies the job magnificently.don't listen to all that cobblers about fwd vs rwd, unless you want to drift or do donuts it never makes a blind bit if difference.
The meg is something else on track & destroys some seriously expensive cars out there simply because it's so easy to drive.

However,it will never,& I mean never turn heads like a z does.the build quality on the Nissan is also superior & that's before you get to the amazing sounding v6 & the unbeatable driving position.
They're cheap cars those z's.I somehow had the feeling I'd arived so to speak when i had mine, people just loved it & mine was in dale winton orange!
Just make sure it has the gt pack on,if you're buying as a weekend toy or as a simple road car & don't need the 4 seats there'd only be one decision in my view
whichever you get they're both great cars but so completely opposite you'll have to try them out,but if you're at all image consious then there's only one winner.
