Certainly all the later PSA cars share the same rear calipers, but I've never seen a 205's to tell. Even my 1992 mk1 Clio had the same rear calipers as my wife's 1998 Xsara VTS.

If that helps.

You can buy them refurbed for about £60 which is what I'd always go for. Otherwise I'm sure they're common across all sorts of French stuff of the age, Clios, R19s etc.

Could you not strip the caliper down, sand smooth the corrosion off the piston and rebuild it? I got another year out of my old XR2 front caliper by doing that. Just watch the seals when disassembling it.

You can work the piston ina nd out, or remove it completely, clean up any corrosion with very light wet&dry etc and re-fit with a little lube. The sliders also can seize up, the same really, get them out, clean them up and re-grease, re-fit.

CAreful though, later PSA cars don't have the same calipers despite what's said above, they look identical but have a bigger piston. May cause un-even braking if not fitted as a pair.

HTH!

thanks for all the replies, i have also been told that it may well be a brake compensator AKA a brake pressure valve that are noturious for failing! i have to change the rear pads anyway so i can check if the caliper is ceased then!

any one know a step by step online guide to pad changes, as i cant find my haynes book of lies!!

if it's the passenger side caliper that's low on effort, it could quite well be the o/s compensator at fault

one way to fix is to do away with both compensators

as price for handed compensators are around £44 each from main dealer
