Hi guys,

This weekend my parents both agreed to trade in their cars and get 10 plate Renaults in March under this rather appealing pcp program they have going. Lured in by my parents, they offered me a very good deal on a 1.2 turbo Clio (10 plate) which a few optional extras of my choice. As my financial situation is going to rapidly change at the end of this year I need the most financially secure vehicle and as this has good MPG, is fairly pokey, free tax, breakdown cover, low insurance and 3 year warranty it will save me a fair bit of dosh per year and be a lot safer as I'm driving a 10 year old car.

I've come to terms with not being able to have "performance" cars for a while but there are things that niggle me about the car I've ordered. It's white, with tinted windows and average alloys. It does however have the black plastic trim going down the doors (which they apprently couldn't change to white to save their lives) and the alloys. So I want to get the side trims sprayed white (as the Renault salesman helpfully suggested) and get the alloys powder coated black (no judgement please). I'm going to check properly and ask for it in writing from the salesman if it doesn't, but does anyone know if purely cosmetic modifications affect the 3 year warrenty?

I can't see any implications for warranty mate I doubt any1 would notice the rubstrips being sprayed, as for the wheels it's only being powder coated so still original alloys no different to if u had scratched a wheel and had it refurbed.

It might not be worth asking for it in writing that it will not affect warranty. Chances are he'll have moved to selling fridge-freezers within a few months and they're not the most trustworthy of people in my experience.

Try and speak to the service manager, who should be able to speak to the warranty manager for you.

The wheels I can't imagine being an issue as long as you get them done by a Renault reccomended wheel repair guy so they are torqued up by the correct procedure. But I'd imagine if either items become defective due to paintwork, it'll be nothing to do with Renault as I'm sure you'd understand.

For the record, the little 1.2 TCE is a good engine!

Theres no need to tarnish all salespersons with the same brush, we aren't all the same. Why do people asume all salespersons are the same some of us do give good customer service

Thanks for the feedback guys. I know I'm being rather anal about this, but I know what I like! Do you reckon I could just buy the side trim thing from a white Clio sport from Renault? Surely they are the same size.

GingerRob do you work for Renault by any chance then?

I'm a car salesman for Vauxhall and Chevrolet but currently I have a Clio 200 and before that a R27 also I have family that work for a dealer, before being a car salesman I was a mechanic so know about warranty.

The side trims if your refering to the rubstrips are different on a Renault sport due to the flaired arches also there stupidly expensive, just get yours sprayed it will save you a fortune, on my White 200 i'm getting the rubstrips sprayed black to go with the black speedlines.
