am thinking about getting a Clio V6 mk II as a toy for odd trackdays and weekend driving for pleasure. Mk I's sound a handling nightmare but from what i read the mk II's were far better sorted and less unpredictable. Have not driven one yet(only Clio have driven is one of the last of previous generation 197 Cups), so am basing my thoughts entirely on the way they look and what i have heard.

would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has bought one for similar purposes and generally about them as a ownership proposition.

I so don't want to be disappointed by the reality of owning one when they look as good as they do...

Cheers

Will it be any quicker than a 182 Trophy? Much more of an event to drive the v6 though

Apparently.....a Trophy can keep up with a V6 quite easily, from what I've read on Cliotrophy.co.uk

You only live once mate, just do it! I've never driven one so can't comment on what it would be like as an ownership proposition but they are a very special car. Not going to be the quickest point to point but from what I've heard they are an event to drive. Get a test drive and see what you think. Then buy one anyway laugh, your not going to loose much (if any) money on it so you could always pass it on if it turns out that it's not to your taste.

A cheaper option might be to go for a mk1 v6 with uprated suspension, theres a few about if your patient and they'r suposed to handle as well as the mk2's if done properly (all here say though so don't quote me)

Good luck, hope you get one, it's what I'm saving up for at the moment.

i would have thought as a track car the 182 would be better, nowhere near as special but just as quick.

if you arent to bothered about that then just go for it

Hello,

I bought my V6 a month ago and have never had as much fun in any car I have owned ! Go too http://www.v6clio.net and have a read through the post and you will find any information you need !
As for the speed they are fast, without a doubt quicker than a 182 trophy in a straight line but in the corners the trophy would be quicker but that's not what the V6 is about! Its the event the noise the presence all working together, trust me you would not regret buying one.

Thanks guys - the whole driving it being an event is what i am after. Had a E30 M3 until last year as a toy and whilst it was not quick at all relative to a modern hot hatch, it had massive presence and driving it was such fun as you felt so involved. I sold it due to lack of use - am hoping the Clio would be more useable.

how good do they sound with the standard exhaust? what do most owners fit if they want to upgrade?

They sound really good with the standard exhaust IMO but I suppose it is personal choice. Like I said go too v6clio.net and try and blag a run out in somebody else's V6

Hey,

I have just done a deal on a PhII Vee and will be using it for many of the same reasons as yourself, something special for the weekends and the odd trackday.

I posted up on V6.net about on track behavior and got a lot of useful responses, it would be worth you reading over that post.

Think early 911, slow in fast out and the general consensus is that you should be ok.

Will let you know what I think after my first track day in it smile

In most circumstances on a proper road (i.e. not a long staight line!) I would expect the a 172/182 to be just as quick if not quicker than a V6. You can just take so many more liberties with them. But every time you drove the V6 it would be an event.

On track would be the same story, which does not mean the V6 would be a poor occasional track car. Would probably take much more time and skill to master which brings its own satisfaction I'm sure.

I'm also very interested in buying one. Just wanted to know are these cars hopeless in the wet? And also how much is the tax on one of these now? Cheers!

I've owned a few renaults in my time and current mount is a mk2 vee. I had a 182 trophy before that and yeah the trophy is one of the best cars I've owned but there is no sense of 'occassion' like I get everytime I take the vee out of the garage. On a track in the dry and in the right hands a 182 would struggle to live with it. Don't forget that you can't really compare chalk and cheese. And that's what everyone does everytime someone brings up a 'does the vee handle well thread. If you need any info about the vee just shout as I also used to own the mk1 version which was just as much fun as the mk2 just not aswell put together in the cabin.
