Hello to all! Just thought id ask if anyone is familiar with the 01 megane? This morning I woke up and started her and she was idling at 400rpm and the engine is shaking the whole car at idle its running so badly, when i rev it it settles a bit but then when driving its way way down on power frown It was 100% when I parked it up last night, any ideas what this might be? I simply dont have the money at the minute to go to a mechanic. Any help appreciated lads thank you

sounds to me like your only firing on 3 cylinders.

With the motor running, pop the bonnet. Grab some pliers, then pull off the HT lead at the spak plug end, one at a time, working from the side nearest where the driver sits (cylinder one). After you have pulled off that plug lead, see if the engine characteristics change. If so, then that spark plug is sparking (nothing wrong). Move on to the next one. When you pull a lead off and the engine carries on running as it was (like crap) then that is the cylinder that is not firing, and a new plug lead will be required. I would also recommend fitting a new set of plugs if this is the case.

If you are going anywhere near an HT lead with a pair of pliers make sure they are a plastic pair unless you want a nasty shock.

Is this the 1.6 or 1.8 16 valve engine? If so I would bet it is one of the coil packs.

If thats the case then there`s no HT leads anyway. Dont disconnect the coils, they are connected in series, in pairs, this could give you a bum steer. Disconnect the injectors instead, not quite as easy but more accurate. Whatever you do most likely is its a coil.

If you don't fancy taking out the injectors (I know I wouldn't) then you could always buy a coil pack from ebay for £10 and try a bit of trial and error.

I think you may have taken it the wrong way, No need to take an injector out, just disconnect the electrical connection with the engine running, as you would a plug lead, if it had them.
Still most likely is a coil, if you go the fleabay route only buy a new one, used ones are just as likely to be giving you problems the day after fitting.
