Sloppy megane 225 gearchange

Just got myself a lovely 225 renaultsport megan, for very cheap. the only problem is the gearchange is very very sloppy and sometimes hard to tell if you have the right gear, any idea?

First question is there any warranty left, and second question how old and how many miles.

No there is no warranty left on her, on a 04 plate with 56000 miles.
Any idea what could be wrong?

Check that the linkage on the gbox isn't worn and loose have a look how much free play there is, you could take it to a dealer so they can tell you what's up exactly or a renaultsport specialist if there is one round your way

Whats the likage on these? cables or bars? And how do I check them?
