A mate of mine come round today with his footwells soaked in water/anti freeze,had a quick look an looks like heater matrix.ive heard this is not a quick job to do is this correct ? im looking for any advice that may help me.smile

Nothing particularly difficult (i.e. most nuts come off easily enough), but there's just LOTS of bits to remove. Did mine last year and now it needs doing again. Grr. Search the GTI6 site as there's a few people who offer to do it for not a ridiculous amount of money.

Not necessary to change the pipes in the bulkhead though - leave the current ones in and separate the matrix from it - I spent ages getting the engine bay side pipes off and ended up snapping the fittings (they're expensive pipes from Pug). It's also difficult to pull the pipes through the bulkhead grommet (and get back in).

there was a company doing a copper replacement matrix instead of the alloy .much more robust.
