Hi, does anyone know of a good garage in the Ashford (Kent) area who could change my son's cambelt etc for a reasonable price?

Thanks

Is Guildford near enough? Google "Tweeqd Automotive", they will be able to do it for a reasonable price.

Martyn the owner is a Mercedes trained technician and one of the others is ex Peugeot so they know what they're doing.

Make sure you get the tensioner and idlers changed as well though - in fact anything the belt drives IE Water pump to be really sure. Plain belt failure is pretty rare.

£100 is a decent price, but was it just the belt, or the tensioners etc as well?

Hi, yes he's having all items changed, but it has to be in or very close to Ashford. Thanks for all your replies!

i payed about £70 for a tensioner and belt so £100 fitted is dirt cheap, doubt you;d find anything close to that. Make sure they change your water pump too as that is driven off your cambelt and if it fails will take the belt with it.
For the lot parts will come to over £100, labour probably depends how easy your water pump is to get out, some just slide out others get seized, I had to drop my engine down to get a pry bar behind the pump to get it out and if that is needed i imagine you would pay a fair bit

My own mechanic quoted £100 to change belt, pump and pulleys etc. (supplied by me) which I realise is a great price, but he's in London, and booked until after Christmas.

may just have to wait until January and get him to do it then. i don't think that the car will get used much over Christmas anyway.

Don't forget the water pump while it's apart.

Hi Ponk, yes, as mentioned, the price includes changing the pump. Very good price compared to some that my son got!
