I have just brought a stunning Peugeot 307 HDI XSI 3 DR and lovie it too bits, except for one thing! The cd player for some reason, which i dont know, likes to turn the volume down all the time. I more often than not have to fight to get it off zero!
So after 2 weeks of musicless travelling and before I spend a ton at a garage, does anybody have any idea whether it could be the cd player? wiring? stork by steering wheel?? or something completely else! I would be grateful for any feedback
Cheers guys

Is it only when the CD player's on (i.e. not the radio)? If so, my advice below will probably be incorrect.

On my 607, particularly in cold weather, the stalk can stick and make the volume go in the wrong direction/change CD/radio station. The solution seems to be TLC and a lighter touch on the stalk, holding it as close to the pivot point as possible, almost to "train" the thing. I've noticed a bit of give on mine so the stalk twists a couple of millimetres, twisting it can also put it back in whack, but like most things on Pugs do it gently! If it does go ape, turning the volume knob on the centre console keeps mine in check.

Otherwise, it's the wiring. Part and parcel of the Peugeot owner's "l'expérience" I've come to notice.

Hi, thank you for your response. It happens on both the cd player and radio. Have already tried the stork buttons and no difference, so will see if it twists a little or anything! I was told it might be the speed sensor, so i tried turning the auto volume off but it keeps turning its self back on. So im thinking it might be electrics or the cd player!

This is my first peugeot and from what I have read Im guessing I might be expecting some hassle with things!

Thanks again

Has it got Speed dependant volume? I had a 206 with that and that was the cause.

Hi thanks for the reply,

I do believe it does, it has an auto volume setting on the stero, and although I turn this off, it turns itself back on! So im hoping there is either a way around this or i can just buy a new stereo for the car and get it coded! But dont want to throw money at a stereo if its electrics

Thanks guys

Hi thanks for the reply,

I think it is possibky the auto volume, did you ever get it turned off on a permanent basis? Just wondering before I go and buy a new cd player?

Kind regards

So do you think i should just buy a new cd player??

Cant afford a huge peugeot bill and im happy enough to pay £40 on a new cd player. And whatever the coding would cost.
