Hi All,

I currently own a Fiat Coupe 20VT and am seriously thinking of getting a V6 anybody got any advice when buying or insights on ownership ? I have trawled through hours of threads on V6clio.net and renaultsport forums. I am just trying too get a good idea of things before I commit too anything !!

Also any friendly V6 owners in the north west (Cumbria) who would not mind showing me there car as I have never had close look at one of these cars would be a great help.

Cheers sam

Don't buy a phase 1 version & drive like a granny when it is wet or else prepare to put it on its roof!

I have just picked up my phase 1 after being in storage for a few months. Dont be fooled into thinking that a phase 2 sticks like glue in the wet. Both will swap ends the same in the wet. That is fact. I have had my phase 1 for a year and its been totally fine. Solidly built and reliable. Its a lot of car for 7k and cant think of anything out there that can match it. If you have the dosh then go for a phase 2 as it is more refined. But a properly set up and standard phase 1 is totally capable. I have raced and kept up with a phase 2 no probs. Then again a 182 has also kept up with mine. I prefer the look of the phase 1 as its more classical looking and not so 'modern'.

If you want loads of info then go onto cliov6.net

I assume you have plenty of turning space? as you'll need it

Also at the first sign of enthusiastic driving & you get a twitch on you'll run out of steering lock & crash hehe

Great cars (well the idea was) let down by some serious downfalls of epic proportions.

I'm also looking for one and had my first drive in one this weekend (albeit a very short drive).

As with any RWD i think as long as you don't take any stupid liberties with it you should be fine.

Saying that I do hear they aquaplane pretty horrifically, is this true?

They are fine. Just dont start approaching sharp corners and roundabouts at 100mph. The V6 is not a race car...its just something unique and fun. The ones who take the piss and mock are the ones who are jealous. They are not expensive but can be to insure. servicing is cheap...do it myself. Parts from Reno are hideous so dont go there.

Lets face it the Clio V6 will be the new legendary Turbo 2 in another ten to fifteen years.

Great, I think the art of the 3 point turn is lost on the modern generation anyway, will be good to let them see it now and again in the middle of town biggrin

I did lose it once in the rain when I first bought it in a busy high street at a roundabout. The back went and I done two doughnuts. Embarassing. Then reailised the tyres all round were budgets. Got em all changed to decent tyres and sorted the 4 wheel alignment and it cured the gripping prob. since then no problems. In the dry the V6 has superb grip. Especially with that heavy V6 over the rear wheels.

These cars are too addictive. Believe me.

Yeah I believe it, even after a very short test drive the noise had me hooked. Can't wait to have one nestled up in the garage ready for a Sunday morning blat smile

Pulled into a gravel parking place today in the V6 and had about 8 lads gawping at the car for as long as I was in there. On the way out dumped the clutch and sprayed gravel everywhere to there amusment. Of all the cars I have owned and these being some nice cars...the Vee gives the most attention. Tell me one other car for 7k that can attract more looks and admiration than most supercars on the road?????

well my rb5 wr sport was even less than that and i have had lots of looks and comments from even a random aston martin owner. its even probably rarer (and quicker laugh ) although obviously less bespoke too.

lovely cars those v6`s though, its nice that you dont see too many so as for them to seem common much like the 172 and 182`s.

when they were new though i worked at a car sales supermarket and they had problems with very badly fitting bodykits which i am led to believe was a problem which was sorted on the later phase 1 and all the phase 2 cars.

When I first signed up here it was because I wanted a Clio V6, and needed advice. Since then I've lusted after an Elise, a VX220, a Boxster (very nearly bought one) and the current want is a 996 C4. There is something about the Clio though.

For me the main thing about the Clio V6 is the bonkers looks. And for that, you really need the Phase 1. The Phase 2 front end I just can't get on with, it looks like a fat bird in a micro-bikini. So what if the Phase 2 is the more accomplished and easier to drive car? Surely if that was the consideration you'd just get a 172/182 Cup, or any number of more able rear wheel drive coupes?

It'd have to be a Phase 1, in silver...

The Phase 1 is def the better looking. I hate the front on the phase 2 even though all round its a more rounded and better finished car. Regarding bodykits mine seems fine and as they were all handbuilt the interior is solid with no squeaks or rattles even after 7 years...

I agree that a standard 172/182 will keep up with the vee but my god that 3.0 V6 is so effortless and and sounds so good. Did anyone see Topgear when Clarkson drove the phase 2...he fell in love with it.

I would say buy a V6 now or very soon as it wont be long before prices start creeping again.

The look of the stratos is so wrong it's so right that was a funny show, I'm kinda tempted by an intergrale but just wondering about the expenses that go with an old car
