Hi guys

I've owned my vtr for 2 years and 20,000 miles, love it, very reliable and enjoyable to drive. its an 03 just short of 50,000 miles in excellent condition. my dilema is wether to swap it for a 306 rallye or keep the vtr.
the rallye is a bit more special-more of a collectors item and has more power but is going to be older (1999)
although my vtr is in mint condition i would personally be looking to spend a few hundred £ in the next few months on cambelt, cv joints and possibly refresh the suspension to get it tip top so its basically going to cost me the same to keep my saxo as it would to get a nice low milage rallye (a bit more insurance on the rallye).

has anyone made the move from vtr to rallye or have expirience of driving both?
any comments appreciated

Cheers

My girlfriend had a 106 XSi (1.6 8v, 105bhp) and switched to a 106 GTi. The difference was night and day, the XSi was flat in comparison.

So on that basis I'd say do it, sure VTRs and similar are fun, but a 6/Rallye/GTI is much more fun.

cheers for the replies, looks like it'l be worth the swap, supose i just need to test drive first to see for myself so il look out for any local dealers that have any or the gti-6 and find out.

I had seen the white press car, looks nice but well up on the miles for my tastes but cheers for the pointer

Well my car is now up for sale, will be sad to see it go but having taken a test drive in a Rallye I am now hunting for one. Steering was sharper, brakes were sharper and it just seems a bit more special to own. Hopefully I will have one on my drive soon! And I'l just try and ignore the massive hike in insurance!biglaugh

A 306 Rallye might well be a bit older, but it won't feel any older to drive (if anything it'll feel newer!)
The engine in the 306 is also more grown-up than the Saxo VTR. The VTR is a good little run around with simple mechanics and enough poke to keep up with the traffic without breaking your wallet, but true driver's machine it is not. The VTS has grown-up performance compared with it, but I reckon the 306 is another jump up still so I'd go for it personally! Especially a Rallye....uber cool!

Thanks Kitchski, just depends if there's a buyer for mine. I always thought I was the type of person to swap my car every few months but based on previous expirience if i was to get a Rallye i think it could well be a keeper!!

Well I've done it! Bought myself a nice mint Rallye this weekend. Love it! Nicer to drive than the saxo and it really does make me feel special knowing that I have a limited edition that people who really know about cars will appreciate.

Now need to sell the VTR though as my bank balance isn't too healthy. The Vtr really does look in mint condition even compared to the Rallye, be sad to see it go but I can't wait to see any potential buyers face when they see the condition of the saxo, its imaculate.

if anyone's interested let me know. I thought that putting up a detailed advert like this would generate a lot of interest but nothing so far so any advice welcome, price is high but it's worth it when viewed.

Cheers for everyones help!!

Adam.

That is strong money, and not a desirable colour (imo). Probably worth it to the right buyer though, good luck with the sale, and well done on the '6!

Well I've just reduced the asking price again, I think its very fair now so if it doesn't sell within a couple of pounds of that I'l just keep both. The VTR's much cheaper to run so I'd save the Rallye for a summer weekend car.
