Hi guys, don't usually post to this seciton, but wonder if I could ask for some advice / help please.

Purchased a clio cup privately today. Been after one for a while and am pleased with it despite the below;

'toxic fumes warning light' started flashing on my journey home and this coincided with the engine 'spluttering' - i.e. it was missing, felt like not firing properly.

Got the car home and have done a few google searches and it seems the following;

1. Toxic fumes warning light is linked to the exhaust - so could be a sensor or a problem with fuelling / cat?
2. Spluttering could be coil pack? Cost around £100 to replace?

I know I need to get the car on a diagnsotic machine but am going abroad tomorrow for a week. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Oh, and no, these propblems did not make themselves apparent on the spirited test drive!

Misfire sounds like the coil for sure but if there is a fault with the engine then the car can go in to limp home mode which just allows the car to get home or to the garage with out causeing further damage and that can often be mistaken for a fault when its just a safty. the emissions light does not always mean there is a fault with the emissions, if there is a fault with something on the engine then the emissions cannot be controlled by the ecu ! But to know for sure you need to put it on diagnostic equipment ! any good garage should have a code reader , just dont have to pay dearler prices !

I've had the emmissions light come on once on my Cup. Caused by a broken exhaust mount rattling the lambda sensor leading to a false reading. Cancelled the error code and fixed the mount and it never happened again.

I didn't experience the poor running like you though.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Got a new set of plugs and HT leads put on it yesterday and now it is running sweet as a nut! Time to get out and enjoy it now!

Cheers
