i'm currently doing my cambelt on my 205 but dont know how to lock the crank. the haynes manual says there is a 'special hole' by the starter motor but i cant find it, does anyone here know how to do it??

had a look in your garage. i assume you have the 1.9 gti? confused

the timing holes are actually in the crank pulley and camshaft pulley

as can be seen here

you need 2 x 10mm dowels. one to feed through the cam pully at approx 8 o'clock, and the other dowel to fit at sort of between 11 and 12 o'clock

the crank locking hole is just buy the starter , its about 8mm if i remember right , not the best to find but it is there ! you should be able to get an allen key in there to lock it !

As above its just below the starter motor, there is a special tool for it which is bent the way it needs to go, it can be done without but is an arse.
