i am considering one of these as a commuter car. it will be doing approx 60 miles a day round trip.

What MPG should i expect
How much do they cost to fill up these days
What costs could i be looking at on a car of this age
Are tyres expensive

Do tou think it is a good idea. I have a 3.5K budget.

Thanks

I have just brought a silver 52 plate and the main things to check is cambelt change, engine mounts and shocks etc.

You should be able to get 35mpg out of it depending on the roads you drive and I have just picked up 4 tyres for £220 fitted so they're not too dear.

Mine has just done 71k and I picked it up for £2850 and its pretty mint with fsh, so you should be able to find a nice lower mileage one with your budget.
Google the clio sport forum if you want some more info , i think there is a buying guide on there.

I just picked up a 182, same really I suppose. Easily does my commute, great to drive, goes well (as a Jag XK8 found out!laugh ) handles well, gets around 34/35mpg average sitting around 80-85 on the private roads to work smile. Very cheap to run if your good with the diy tools, brake pads all round and new disks/bearing all for under £150, tires range from £40-90 depending upon make, parts are cheap from motor factors places or Euro Carparts etc. If you can live with the usual french rattle and plastic over rought roads then its hard to beat really. Dont put a silly exhaust on it though as the body is thin and the noise come straight through... that or Im just old!

I had a 172cup and a timing belt kit fitted cost me just short of £500. 6 hour job I was told which seems to be the norm on these.

Great fun cars but I have to say mine was by far the most unreliable car I've ever had.

I had a 51 172 with 50k on the clock as my daily. I did about 40 miles aday back roads and got about 35+mtg.

Keep the tyres good and spend money when things go wronge which they will and you will be fine.

My cambelt cost me £450 all in after shopping around for a long time. I had quotes of £1000+ so make sure to shop around.

Great car miss mine badly.
