Why the hell is insurance so damned expensive for a Saxo VTR??? It is cheaper to insure my Lotus Elise than to get 3rd party only coverage on my Saxo!!

Totally insane. Anyone out there know where I can get some decent insurance? These gangsters want to rip me half the value of my car for 1 year's insurance, 3rd party only (3 points on licence, 3 years NCB on the Saxo, 10 years on Lotus).

I hate UK insurnace companies

Chav's and Joyriders have make the Saxo difficult to get a premium on. I was offered one as a part exchange on my 205 GTI 1.9 but it was going to cost three times the amount to insure the Saxo 3FT as the 205 was Fully Comp' (the 205 was a normal everyday use policy not a classic limited mileage one). Is it any wonder that the Saxo and 106 are the two most uninsured cars driven on UK roads?

Chavs aside, UK insurance still defies all reasonable logic. According to their NCB rules, I am a chav when I drive my Saxo but a safe old greybeard when at the helm of my category 19 Lotus...I never suspected I had schizophrenia but maybe I should go and see the doctor?

But I agree, the chavs make the Saxo a bit of a tough proposition to insure. I still think some reason should be used when assessing an individual's risk. I have not claimed a penny from an insurance company in 10 years, with 2 cars, am I really a chav? come on, fully comp on the Lotus is cheaper than 3rd party on a crappy Saxo???

@Matt how should i contact you privately?

Personally wouldn't urinate on Lovel House, East Winch (Adrian Flux's base) if it were on fire.

I've had better quotes on them in the past than I have on 205 GTIs, although ymmv

VTR is group 7 and GTI is 12 or 14 for the 1.9 iirc

Saxos are crashed. A lot. Therefore they are expensive to insure. Get rid.

Odd. I think some insurers just st themselves when they see those 3 magic letters.

306 XSI is quicker than a 205 GTI but only group 11 with a 2L...Guess some of it comes down to how easy they are to nick and also repair costs though.

Have a 400 bhp e39 M5 which i was going to garage over the winter.
Saw a nice one owner standard Saxo vtr on usedcarsni at £1600 and thought it might do for a winter run arround.
Was quoted as much to insure it (with its mighty 100bhp)as I was for the beast.
I'm in my mid forties , 2 kids etc etc with 9 yrs no claims
Is it any wonder so many young people are driving arround uninsured?

Adrian Flux have always done me alright, I've rarely found anyone who could touch their quotes, their breakdown is great and they did very well by me when someone wrote off my car.

A 1.9 is only group 14 so I'm not sure what you've got there! T16? But that'd surely be group 20?

please explain how you came to this conclusion? Since a 1.9 gti is quicker to 60 than a gti6...

I meant the 1.6 GTI vs the XSI. Evo disagrees with you about GTi-6 vs 1.9 GTI too.

A few of the 306 0-60s seem lower than the 'official' figures. Even my Dturbo would do it in about 9 seconds if you were hard on the clutch yet the official figure is over 13...
