Scenic Sounds

I have just bought the missus a cheap Y plate scenic which has a grotty tape deck. is there an easy/cheap way of connecting mp3 player/ipod. have looked around the net and can find old references to stuff but can't find anything thats still available. have looked at changing the head unit but want to retain the column controls and the dash display, anyone got any ideas.
