Hey all,

Having a few problems with my '99 1.2 Petrol Clio. It was serviced about a month ago, with fresh oil, oil filters, plugs and air filter (<500 miles). The car then ran fine for a week or so, but then 2 days before I was due to go on holiday the oil temperature gauge went bananas - It was going from cold to hot and then back down again. I mentioned it to my granddad and he suggested the thermostat might have been knocked at some stage and gone out of alignment or whatnot.

I then went on holiday and completely forgot about it, when getting back from 3 weeks abroad the car started fine and now the thermostat will just stay about 4/5ths of the way around the dial with the warning light on. Upon checking the radiator fluid level it was not even registering, so topped it up and thought nothing of it. But now the radiator fluid repeatedly goes back down again, and the temperature stays high even immediately after topping up the water.

So, I was wondering - what would be the best way to go about it? I'm presuming the radiator has a leak so a new radiator will be in order, how hard are these to fit and how expensive will they be roughly?

Cheers in advance, Matt.

If it's using a lot of water and overheating it sounds like it could possibly be the head gasket.

I could have a look for you if you're anywhere near Leicester
