Xsara 1.4 stuttering / Citroen specialists London/Surrey

I've recently been given a 1998 Xsara 1.4 which is great apart from an occasional stuttering / loss of power. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this - it can happen at the beginning/middle/end of a journey, at high speed or low speed - the car just loses power, like it can't breathe, for a few seconds and then carries on normally. If this happens at low speed, the car will cut out completely but will then usually restart without a problem although I'll have to keep the revs up to stop it stalling again.

It doesn't happen every journey and it doesn't seem to vary with the weather, sitting in bad traffic etc.

What sort of things could be causing this?

Also, could anyone recommend a Citroen specialist in Central/West London or Surrey?
