Clio 172 remote central locking not working

My keyfob no longer locks/unlocks and arms/dis-arms the alarm on my car at the touch of a button. I've tested my spare key to check it is not a fault with the fob itself (flat battery was my first idea). Fortunately I can still access the car by the old fashioned method of putting the key in the door!

Anyone had this problem? Ideas to what has gone wrong?
