Just brought a 205 turbo for the track and am curious what the top speed would be.
Believe it has a 1.6 gearbox.
I assume it will be the gearbox that will limit its speed.
Also what would be the ideal gearbox for trackdays?
Are there any gearboxes that have a lsd that will go straight on?

Roughly 120 with that box.Believe it has a 1.6 gearbox.

Depends but a 1.6 box would be ok for track, there aren't many straights you'll be bouncing of the limiter in 5th.
LSD was never standard - you'd have to fit a Quaife or similar
I had a 1.9 box on my turbo conversion, that would take it to around 140mph (indicated speed of course) on 5th limiter. I then changed to a turbo diesel box which took the needle off the clocks!!
Also worth mentioning is that the diesel box should be a bit stronger as its designed to handle more torque loads. As for a diff you'll have to buy a Quaife or similar.

On my TT I used a 1.9 box with a final drive from a TD. Kept the spacings between the gears the same but dragged then all out by 10%. So 1000rpm in 5th went from 20mph to 22mph (88mph @ 4k instead of 80mph). Made a big difference to driveability. 140+mph top. Also had a Quaife diff fitted.
The final drive of a gearbox is determined by the number of teeth on the crownwheel (fitted to the differential) and pinion. By changing these it is possible to alter the gearing, so by fitting a td final drive it effectively drags the gears out by about 10%.
Best way to do this is to get a td box, give it and your 1.9 box to a decent mechanic and ask him to swap the crownwheel and pinion for you.

It'll probably be easier for you to buy complete 1.9 and td boxes. Unless you can find someone who is splitting a gearbox for parts as new items would be quite expensive i'd imagine. Dont forget you'll get decent money for your 1.6 box as they are popular with people who have mi16 and gti6 conversions
A 1.6 box will happily do 130+ with the poke behind it and enough revs. I have a std 1.6 that does it frequently.
