OK i currently have a 1.9 8v with 152 bhp but wanting more. so what would be the best to go for?
iv considered the mi16 but it will be used on track occasionally so how bad can the oil starvation be? and what will it cost to dry/baffle sump it?
the GTi-6 engine seems like there are more widely available parts plus i could get the engine and gearbox from an xsara vts for reasonable money with lowish miles. plus iv also heard that they will respond much better to performance upgrades than the mi16.
My thrid option is the 406 sri turbo engine. i know they are only 150 bhp to start with but getting 180+ would be easily achievable with boost upgrades and more with larger turbo and intercooler etc

ok kinda loosing my way now, so what i want to know is which would be the more pleaseing to drive? i havnt had a turbo car before so that will open me up to more learning but will the boost affect me mid corner and ruin the handling? it does also need to be quick on the straights too so please dont say "a 205 is only meant to go round corner and is no good in a straight line"
as im fed up of all the new hatches coming out that seem to be stepping up a couple of levels over the older stuff again and i want to show them wat an older lighter car can do, and do with style. lol

ok story over

GTI-6 seems the most popular these days.

Having owned 205's fitted with all 3 types of motor, i'd say the best conversion suited to a road car is the GTi6

The mi16 i had made 169bhp ATFW, my turbo made 231bhp ATFW, and the gti6 is standard bar an exhaust and filter.

The engine is more torquey than the mi16 and is also more reliable (seeing as my mi16 put a piston through the block). With the added bonus of no oil surge issues should you want to use it for a trackday or two. The turbo engine just made to much torque (and in a fairly narrow band) which made it silly quick, and difficult to drive on track due to lag and wheelspin.

Not to mention the 3 gearboxes i changed in the space of a year

I find the GTI-6 too heavy for the 205. Improves the straight line speed at the expense of more tendency to understeer. Not what a 205 is all about imo...

You selling your 8v though? wink

A decent suspension upgrade will help to limit the understeer... and on a road car will it really be pushed that hard it becomes a problem?

I think the benefits of the gti6 outweigh the disadvantages... but we're all entitled to our own opinions smile

So you don't want to sell the engine alone and convert the car?

well i would like to as i really do like the car and obviously know it history and how good it is mechanically but Im not as mechanicallly able to do full engine conversion myself (especially if i get the turbo engine) to fit so would need to pay someone to fit for me and that will be expensive!
