Hi,

This is my first post!

I have just bought a 205Gti 1.9. It has appentaly had alot of work done to it (forged pistons, port and polish, rally spec 1.6 box etc . .) however I only paid £1200 and its straight with all ols MOTs and receipts.

Anyhow, I have a problem, when changing gear the car shoots left and right, and generally feels a bit unstable. I think it needs a CV boot, and I know it has all group N (hard plastic) mounts.

Does anybody have any ideas what it could be?

I have tried 205gtidrivers, but I cannot become a member yet . . .

Thnaks in advance

Nigel

when changing gear, or when nailing the throttle?

if its under throttle, it'll probably be down to knackered wishbone bushes. pattern ones are sh!t but you can buy a full kit from peugeot still

Happens when easing off, or changing gear and applying the power.

It feels quite well planted when driving in gear (apart from the tendancy to follow any groove on the road)

sounds like a mixture of w/b bushes, balljoint and crap tracking! jack it up, get under it and shake everything! The one good thing about owning a 205 is that everything is relatively easy to do smile

Yep, wishbone bushes.
It's quite common.
Accelerate on the motorway and you can change lanes without steering, then when you ease off you drift back into your original lane?

Like sorrento said you can buy a wishbone bush kit from Pug (approx £18)- comes with all the bushes, nuts and bolts. If you buy them individually it is around £40 and doesn't come with bolts etc.

Whip off the wishbones and 'blow torch' the old ones out.
Then press in or hammer the new ones in.

I'm taught in work (Ford dealership) to say that theres no such thing as a common problem.... but in this instance i'd say it is lol wink

I'd be tempted to try and identify which side is the problem and buy a complete bottom arm, will almost certainly cure it for you.

And i agree, get some pics up smile

Here is a picture from the advert. The guy was a bit of a chav rolleyes

There are few rust spots on the roof, tiny. The rear bumper looks as though it was originally red (unless they used red primer) but its a solid shell and pulls extremely well.

Need to sort out the wiring though, being an electrical engineer should help . . .

I have noticed how much concentration is needed, and how bl**dy heavy the steering is when the car isn't moving!!

Ok, the stupidest of question....where can I find the wishbone bush? Please no sarcastic answers, where should I look if I'm under my 205? I also have this problem.

Cheers

It's one of two rubberised pieces in the the wishbone that the bolts go through that then attach to the subframe.
I'll post a pic of a tech drawing once I get home.

Cheers for the replies, it was the suspension arm on the passengers side, much, mcuh better now!

On a side note does anybody know why I cannot join 205gtidrivers.com?
i have bought a car from a chav, and he posted up there, one of the things that is worrying me is that he said the gear box had blown in early May, but all seems fine now (although the clutch has to be depressed fully to change gear)

Its the car that the guy said had forged internals and was 155BHP (Its not lol)

not sure why you are having problems tbh, i know its a pretty stringent place to get on, you have to post very specifically you understand rules such and such. The last person successfully registered on june 19th.

That link comes up as "you don't have the rights to view this page".

I've been trying to register on 205 GTI Drivers since early April - this is the screen I have had whenever I have tried to register a new account...

Three months on, still getting it.
