Peugeot 306 replacing the handbrake cable - rear disc brakes

Hi,
Wifey's car is at it again and decided to replace the rear brake caliper as it was seizing up. All apart but the handbrake cable which wouldn't remove from the caliper. So cut it.
So now I need to replace the cable but how does it fix to the handbrake lever. Cables goes through the floor to, I guess, under the centre console, but feeling around through the removable square tray etc. and without removing the console, I cannot find anything.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

You have to remove the console i'm afraid.They slot into a bracket and you need good access .
