I currently have Michelin PE2 tyres on my 182 but I need three of them replaced but unfortunately the price has increased to around £105 each tyre since I last got some. In addition, the cambelt and aux belts (as well as a general service) need doing to I have to make it cost effective as possible.

Can anyone suggest alternatives that are cheaper but without going down the budget route. If I can save money I am happy to replace all four as I don't really want to mix the tyres.

Thanks

I need to replace two PE2s' on my 172 Cup soon too so have shopped around recently. Best price I was offered was £90 per corner fitted but the place (independent discount place) had none in stock and could not guarantee getting them sooner. Opted for a larger chain which could actually get the tyres but at a higher price - £94 per corner fitted (got some money off when I asked for a price match).

Note, I need 195 width tyres rather than 205 which the 182 runs. PE2s' always seem to be in short supply when ever I need some especially 195 width (had even more trouble last year).

I did consider switching brands as PE2s' are amongst the most expensive and a pain to get hold of but it is a good tyre which I am used to and trust. Plus I only need two for the front and want to avoid mixing brands (although I can't see a major problem as long as they match across an axle). I would have probably opted for the Continental Sport Contact 2 if I had'nt found any PE2 at a reasonable price.

Best bet is too use mytyres.com or blackcircles.com for a competitive quote and then ask local suppliers to price match. If you live near the Thames Valley I can suggest some good local tyre fitters.

Edited to delete my stupid reply to Spartan Luke. Sorry, must learn to read properly! paperbag

Yes, I suppose the tyre size would help! For some reason I am on 195/45/R16 V heavy load as opposed to the 205/45's

Thats somewhat odd. I always believed all 182s' came on 205 rubber which some 172 drivers have subsequently switched too, but never the other way round.

I run with 195 Yokohama S-drives. Didnt think of going to 205 when I changed them.
Theyre £60 ish each delivered from Simplytyres (plus fitting), though I have to admit I got them straight from Yoko for quite a bit less... Done 4k on them so far and cant fault them on the road, admittedly I dont push them to their limits!

Have you tried Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tyres? I bought these for my Megane 225 in 235/40/18 for £100 each to replace the Dunlops that were on there. Fantastic tyre and gets favourable reviews elsewhere.

Thanks for the responses guys, I have no idea why 195s are fitted but I'm in a vicious circle now as I can't mix sizes but don't want to waste a perfectly good tyre by changing them all to 205s.

Thanks again, I will get some prices on the alternatives.

I need 4 new soon, switched from Conti to Michelin XSE something or other, same grip but less noise and much longer lasting than the Conti's (gone through many tyres in the car's 140k miles). Not sure what to go for next but if anyone is local there's potential for a group buy discount especially at an independent place, John...?

Sorry mate - picked up two new Michelin PE2s' yesterday £158 fitted. Which is not bad at all (I swear they actually quoted me more on the phone a week ago when I asked them to get them in, but I was'nt arguing!)

Needed them ready for Wales and Isle of Man this week!!! evildrivingwoohoo

Sorted 3 Michelin PE2 195s at costco for £270 odd inc fitting over the weekend, thanks for your help guys.

On an entirely different note, anyone know where I could get a navigo 3.5" sat nav cradle? (posted on the Sat-nav forum but can't imagine that many people look at those threads regulary) i trod on mine and broke it.

Thanks again

Humphries in Caversham, Reading. Its a Kwikfit type place. Used them a couple of times now; very local to me and can actually get hold of tyres I want when others can't.
