hi guys can't get the cooling fans to work it's had new fan switch in the radiator, it's also had the earth point renewed near the headlamp, if you unplug remote power to the fan it works. also had new head gasket and temp sender. the only thing i'm not sure of is if there is a relay or resistor for it, there is this long silver thing joined in to the fan wiring which clips to the radiator and has a 3 pin plug going to it, this plug can be fitted either way into this silver thing and was wondering if this thing is at fault and what it is, also does it matter which way it gets plugged in as there are only two pins used on this 3 pin connector.
any help cheers.

There should be two of those cylindrical resistor one for the dim/dip the other for the cooling fan.

is there a way of checking these resistor packs the main beam one is working, what sort of resistance figure would i expect if i check using a multi-meter

If you join the two wires together all it will do is make your fan run at full speed.
They run a two speed system on the fan, hence theres quite a few wires on the rad fan switch.
So bypassing the resistor will lose your half speed rad fan.
