Yep. "They all do that Sir" hehe

My 172 Cup is particularly lumpy from cold - they are all set to idle high (1100rpm-ish) from cold for a few minutes, some kind of emmissions thing I believe.

Yep they start off at just over 1k rpm and then drop to about 400rpm after a few mins once the engine starts to warm. My 182 is actually very good and doesn't seem lumpy at all which amazes me because my 1.6 was TERRIBLE at this!

Yep, they all idle dreadfully (and have no power) for a few minutes.

Have no power? confused

I've never booted mine from cold to find out personally. Certainly seem sufficient to me. Perhaps maybe a little trickier to balance revs when pulling away sometimes.

I know the rev limit is pegged back to 6.5k until the ecu deams everything to be up to temperature.

I've had this discussion on a different forum before and I too find that the engine acts very odd when cold, like it is missing power. Once the engine is warm it makes a world of difference.

I guess I should have said "less torque".

I can tell when the oil needs changing buy how 'tappety' the car is at idle, it's a useful prompt to do it about every 5K which incidentally is why I think the engine is still so strong after so many miles, always warmed it up and never gone too far between oil changes, touch wood of course!

Mine has always sounded 'tappety' when idling hot - I've been told this is not actually the tappets though rather something to do with the carbon canister IIRC (whatever that is! hehe)

Change the oil on mine every 6k, fits neatly between a service every 12k that way. Mine certainly seems to be going strong.
