Loud clunk when braking in reverse...
Discussion
Currently using a £70 309 Trio whilst I'm in the transition from my dead 306 to (hopefully) an MX-5.
Anyway if I brake when reversing I get a very loud clunk noise from the front end, the breaks are fairly shaky anyway but no such noises when breaking in any of the forward gears.
Anyone have a clue to what it could be?

Does it make the clunk the first time you brake going forward AFTER you have heard the clunk whilst reversing? Sometimes the pads can move a small fraction if worn, so when you reverse and brake the pads clunk on the top of the calipers then clunk when you brake forward again and they return to the bottom of the caliper.
Worth having it looked at or if your confident yourself just have a look for anything hat doesn't look right yourself.

The shaking under forward braking (does it happen at all speeds?) will be warped discs I should imagine. Not sure about the clunk in reverse, though. This is a common problem with the 1.6 calipers, and its an easy fix.
The caliper sliders just need removing and re-greasing. This will cure your problem for a year or two until the grease wears off and it'll start again. Either that or pop to Peugeot and buy a new slider and seal set, this will be a more permanent fix that way

Or fit 1.9 calipers and discs, cures it straight off. Think they should fit to base model hubs...
