Hi

Thinking about buying either of the above as a track car.

106 is cheaper and looks a bit more fun. I would have to get a decent roll cage to get safety to my standards.

306 is safer and will do long distances better but heavier and a bit more expensive.

Would be really interested in anyone who has driven both.

Cheers

The 306 is actually like for like a lot cheaper to buy than the 106.

And is the better all round car imo. Owned two.

Id go for the 306 as you can pick them up cheaper like okgo said. They like to drink more so than the 106, but at least the pedals are sensibley placed smile

What is all this about the pedals?! I've got size 13s and NEVER had a problem driving my old 106 Rallye. Sure they're close, but not close enough to matter.

Having said that, the 306 is so much more capable.

Ive been in 106 gti's on track and never been in the way of faster cars , mind you most of them can be tweak to 170bhp and on track thats enough in a little car .
Ive also never found the pedals to be of any problems in the gti .
its all about personal preferance i spose .....

You can go a long way with the 306 engine too, supercharging is the latest way of getting 400 bhp, and they are quite a bit of work. I think there is now one with an uprated kit and such that has 500 bhp.

I've had two 106 gti's and a 306 Rallye. 106 is more fun and adjustable due to its size, but the 306 has the far better gearbox and comfort.

306 is far cheaper to buy these days, but more unreliable, cambelts snap for fun for example, 106 takes a thrashing and seems to live in the red zone with no problems.

Personally id have a saxo vts, the better car, ie 106, but for the price of the 306 smile A good 106 is in Clio 172 price territory & in my opinion a 172 cup is a better car than both - and ive had one of those as well ...

Spot on! just what i was going to say chance of getting a tidy vts is greater than a gti or hows about a xsara vts coupe? = gti-6 but cheaper and without the w@nk gearbox!

Yep, I've got size 12's and never had any problem at all, I think the people that whinge about the pedals must have feet like Krusty the clown.

Anyway, having pedals that close makes it easier to heel and toe! thumbup
